At Don’s gathering in Bangor, family and friends were invited to write down a favorite memory.

These are their words, preserved in their own handwriting—stories of laughter, card games, golf, generosity, teasing, and the ordinary moments through which Don was loved.

Hiding under the bed

Thoughtfully crafted to elevate what matters most.

Grandpa hoped my dad would become a boxer.

To help promote the family pool hall, local boxing matches were arranged and Dad was in the ring.

He hated it.

In one match with Florian, both boys had bloody noses, Dad was knocked out and neither wanted any part of boxing anymore.

When the next match was announced, Dad hid under the bed!

Grandpa eventually found him, clinging to the bed springs. He struggled to pull Dad out by his feet, as Dad tried with all his might to avoid climbing back into the ring!
